Our Voyage

One of the biggest challenges of our life is about to begin. We have carefully planned the launch of “Desert Eagle” in Cape Town for November 2007, but as with many events in life, this was slightly delayed and finally on 10th November 2007 Desert Eagle departed from Panama Jack Quay in the habour of Cape Town. On Board with me, a skipper from Cape Town and a very competent deck hand.

The first sector was to transfer the catamaran to St Maarten in the Caribbean where my family would join me in early December 2007.

The transfer took us 33 days, a journey with enormous contrasts and challenges. Starting with very calm seas, no swell and no wind from Cape Town, this was to change soon and at times the wind literally jolted the 46ft catamaran up and down the swell as if we were a little surfboard. Nevertheless, we made it and the crew disembarked, the family joined and the real voyage could begin.

The route we had set out for our journey around the southern seas of the world, would take us from St Maarten to Antigua, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada, Isla De Margarita, Aruba through the Panama canal to Galapagos, Marquesa, South Pacific islands, New Zealand and Australia

Let’s see how the journey will develop……
