Arndt and Constance Asmus, are a particularly interesting couple to meet. Here is their story: "Arndt and I both love traveling & adventure. In the early 80's we undertook our first trip together. On a Yamaha XT500 off road motorbike we toured the southern parts of Europe and North Africa. During Easter 1983 we explored Greece and Egypt, in August of the same year we decided to test our skills in the Sahara desert, each one of us on our own bike. In 1985 Arndt and a friend traveled through Africa on motorbikes, from Germany to Cape Town and back to Kenya. This took most of the year. Arndt and I then decided to jointly travel on the same route, this time in a Land Rover. On 1 May 1987 we reached Namibia (then still Southwest Africa) We decided to stay right there. It is almost 10 years ago that we agreed to acquire a Catamaran. This 45ft yacht was named ASCO 1. Four years later Dream Team a 46ft catamaran was ordered. Both yachts were chartered under professional guidance in the Caribbean seas. We took every opportunity to meet up on the yacht, extend our sailing experience and to fall
in love with the sea, sailing & adventure. The ultimate dream to circumvent the world crept
closer and closer with each holiday. Now in our mid forties, we have decided to do it, Then, in October 06 it all happened. The dream of sailing the world seas became a reality when visiting the boat exhibition in Cape Town, we ordered a brand new 46ft Catamaran from Robertson Caine. Launch date was confirmed for November 2007. The preparations started immediately. Twelve months sounds a long time, but in reality it was
very short to get everything into place for this extended journey. " |
